About the Opportunity

Curve Lake First Nation has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Executive Director, based in Curve Lake, Ontario.

In this position, you will be primarily responsible for guiding the success of Curve Lake First Nation by efficiently managing the organization to meet membership needs. As the Executive Director, you play a pivotal role as the senior manager, providing organizational leadership and mentoring staff. 

Reporting directly to Chief and Council, your oversight extends to all operational aspects, ensuring a respectful and responsible approach in alignment with legislation. Your focus on cultivating positive relationships, both internal and external, is instrumental in achieving organizational goals while upholding relevant policies and procedures.

Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Advising, informing Council, and prioritizing critical issues
  • Implementing Council decisions, delegating directives, and liaising with Community Members
  • Assisting Council with third-party protocols and collaborating on activities
  • Planning, facilitating and actively engaging in council, community meetings, and consultations, contributing to planning and execution
  • Ensuring effective administration and management tools/policies
  • Facilitating the updating of the Comprehensive Community Plan and implementing reviews
  • Ensuring Directors and staff follow policies, advising on compliance, and interpreting legislation
  • Managing Contribution and Funding Agreements, ensuring proper financial management
  • Overseeing HR administration
  • Providing updates on HR policies and overseeing grievance and appeals processes
  • Managing government relations, reporting requirements, and relationships with other levels of government
  • Keeping community members informed on issues and activities
  • Providing leadership and guidance during community crises, ensuring the maintenance of Capital Assets, and overseeing Capital Projects

More About You

In order to qualify for this role, you must have at least 5 years’ experience in executive management, leadership, Human Resources, and administration, with a minimum of a College Diploma or University Degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Finance, or related fields.  Strong preference for previous experience working within a First Nation organization or in a related field.

The following skills and experience will be strong assets:

  • Extensive experience in financial and resource management, strategic planning, and community development, preferably within First Nations
  • In-depth knowledge of Indigenous culture, traditions, and challenges
  • Proven knowledge of First Nation Governance and Administration
  • Comprehensive understanding of Curve Lake First Nation's programs and services
  • Familiarity with Federal and Provincial legislation for First Nations
  • Extensive background in stakeholder relations, negotiation, and conflict resolution
  • Superior HR management, leadership, and team building
  • Expertise in relevant legal frameworks and the relevant cases affecting First Nation communities
  • Knowledgeable about various funding agencies and criteria
  • Demonstrated leadership in fostering self-reliance and organizational awareness
  • Willingness to travel
